The Fort Bragg Area

Ft. Bragg is a great place to go Scuba Diving and there's no better place to experience it than the lost harbor, which now boasts the most picturesque camping and RV park around - Caspar Beach. The RV park is located just 3.5 miles north of the village of Mendocino.

Camp, Tent or RV in a clean, fun, friendly atmosphere for the whole family at the most unique campground on the Mendocino Coast. Your kids are sure to have fun bike riding, boogie boarding, kite flying, or at the arcade. And what vacation would be complete without the family pet. We are a pet friendly park and offer a dog run for 'Rover'. We encourage and enjoy the presence of your pets. They are required to be leashed at all times for the safety of others.

High Sierra Divers hosts several get-togethers each year in the Ft. Bragg area. We have a pot-luck Ab feed, do several dives and just have fun.

There is no charge for the trip other than camping fees and personal expenses. We usually get a block of sites and you can coordinate through us, or make your own reservation and tell them you want to be close to our group if you choose.

The Channel Islands - Southern California

Diving in the kelp forests around the Channel Islands is a unique experience for divers more accustomed to tropical waters. Similar to tropical waters, the waters are clear with lavish flora and fauna representing every hue imaginable, but unlike tropical diving, giant kelp offers another dimension to your dive.

Diving in kelp is similar to a walk in a lush forest of trees with these plants growing to heights of more than 120 feet. Giant kelp helps support an aquatic ecosystem that provides domicile for more than 800 species of marine life.

A Channel Islands trip offers you the opportunity to discover a variety of underwater landscapes. Water visibility in these waters can range from 40 to 100 feet and on rare occasions sometimes even up to 150 feet. There are untold opportunities for viewing and photographing a panorama of underwater vistas.

Unlike the coral reefs of tropical waters, the reefs in the Channel Islands are comprised of varied types of rock structures. Like coral reefs, the cracks and crevices provide ideal living quarters for many species. The rocks are overlaid with brightly colored bouquets of anemones, starfish, and garlands of hydro-coral, sponges, and sea fans. Moray eels, octopus, abalone, rock scallops, California spiny lobsters, and a host of others inhabit rock fissures and crevices. Divers may chance upon giant black sea bass weighing in at 500 pounds, or a halibut, lingcod, vermilion rock-fish, calico bass and more. Migrating gray whales, blue whales, humpback whales, schools of dolphins, seals and sea lions are familiar sightings in the Channel Islands during crossings.

We have charters throughout the year with Channel Islands Expeditions, the premier dive boat operator in the Channel Islands. We generally charter the whole boat for our dive store. However, we can book individual trips for you to the Channel Islands during any time of the year.

We also charter with another boat operator for the Channel Islands - the Peace Dive Boat. Our next HSD excursion with them is scheduled for August. See below for more trip info.

At this time, the following Channel Island trips are planned:
