HSD is a full service dive store, providing you quality training for Scuba divers from Basic Open Water through Instructor levels, and quality equipment sales. On the leading edge of technology, we also offer you training in CPR, Oxygen Provider & Nitrox.
We provide comprehensive, quality classroom, pool and open water education which allows you to safely enjoy the fun of SCUBA, regardless of your certification level.
Scuba is an equipment-oriented sport. HSD offers scuba equipment sales of many major brands. We help customers to select equipment that fits well, is comfortable, and meets their unique needs for the type of diving that interests them.
Scuba Equipment requires annual service. Most parts warranties are dependent upon having this annual service performed by an authorized dealer. HSD also provides in and out-of-warranty repairs and service on most brands.
We offer air fills from a Mako 18cfm compressor and six-position fill station that allows slow, low-heat air fills.
Our store also offers group & individual Dive Travel packages.
Our goal is to excite you about diving and to keep you excited! Contact us with any suggestions or needs you might have.
High Sierra Divers was founded by Tom Minch in 1985. In order to obtain major product lines and offer better service it was necessary to obtain a storefront location. HSD then entered into a partnership arrangement with 'Sports Anyone', a local sporting goods store in 1986.
In 1988, it was decided to open a stand-alone business. Doug Novelly was hired as the first full time employee to manage the new store. HSD was incorporated as a California corporation in 1986 and opened its doors to scuba customers. We were the only shop in the Grass Valley Area and we grew quickly. In 1991 it was decided to open a second store in Auburn. The store in Auburn was managed by Doug Novelly and proved to be a success. It was decided to close the Grass Valley store in 1993, cut expenses and still serve both areas.
The corporation sold the business to Doug Novelly in 2001. Doug & his wife Tina have owned and managed the store since then.
